Thank you Not Norms!

Thank you so much to everyone that applied to join the Not Normal Creative team! I’m genuinely blown away by the number and quality of applications we’ve received! Having only started Not Normal Creative less than a year ago, it’s been a lot of hard work and keeping my head down to get to where we are now. But getting to work with so many amazing clients and having so many of you apply - all of whom have the same passion, drive & realness as we do, well, it’s just incredible.

When I’ve applied for jobs in the past out in the ‘real world’, I would purposely never mention the fact I had Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, or depression & anxiety, that I was queer or that I never aaactually finished either of my degrees, because I was always made to feel like it would jeprodise me getting the position. And that’s coming from a cis, white woman who’s able to hide her disabilities. I imagine that anxiety of prejudice is much, much bigger for others. So, when looking for some Not Normals to join the crew, I wanted to make sure that it was completely inclusive and everyone felt comfortable applying.

I tried to ask questions in the application that made everyone feel safe about being as open and honest as possible - but I wasn’t quite prepared as to how open and honest people were going to be! And I’m so thankful and inspired and in awe of the answers I got. I 100% shed more than a few tears whilst reading some, and getting an insight into everyone’s story filled my wee heart with pride. Reading about how so many of you have overcome obstacles in life, learnt from them and allowed that to make you a stronger person - that is exactly the kind of people I want to be the backbones of Not Normal Creative.

So I guess I just want to say a MASSIVE thank you to everyone who applied, for those who shared their honest stories - I am feeling super humbled that Not Normal Creative can be something to people who are not supported, recognised or praised elsewhere. Keep being weird & saying no to the norm! You guys are the best!
